You need to stand up and demand this happen.
“We will not ship away prisoners in the dead of night to be tortured in far off countries, or detain without trial or charge prisoners who can and should be brought to justice for their crimes, or maintain a network of secret prisons to jail people beyond the reach of the law. We will respect the time-honored principle of habeas corpus, the seven century-old right of individuals to challenge the terms of their own detention that was recently reaffirmed by our Supreme Court. We will close the detention camp in Guantanamo Bay, the location of so many of the worst constitutional abuses in recent years. With these necessary changes, the attention of the world will be directed where it belongs: on what terrorists have done to us, not on how we treat suspects.”
“…That right-wing rhetorical flourish that has Palin declaring that she has gay friends. That softer image is not what some Alaskans saw.”
No sh*t. And people can’t seem to understand why I have zero interest in Alaska. Stop electing freaks like her.

“It seems this may spell the end of outrageous data bills in Canada.”
Yes, I observe more than just politics.
“By this logic Palin has much more experience than John McCain.”
“[A] Republican on MSNBC is arguing that Palin has much more experience than Joe Biden because all he did was run committees in the Senate.”
“…Almost twice the number Kerry got in 2004. Number does not include PBS or C-Span. Nor does it include those who streamed it over the web.”
Over 38 million watched Barack’s speech Thursday night. That’s more than those who watched the opening of the Olympics.
“…Officials close to Romney and Pawlenty said they had both been rudely strung along and now ‘feel manipulated.’”
Love the headline for this one: “ WAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH”.
“Wiping out polar bears. That’s a great legacy and a worthy goal.”
Oil lobbyists want to remove polar bears from the endangered species list so they can drill unimpeded in Alaska.
I don’t necessarily have a problem with the drilling, it just needs to be done responsibly. And it shouldn’t be undertaken without first aiming for alternate energy so that the drilling is temporary.

Great reviews of Obama’s speech
Wow. Even some people at Faux News liked it. It’s probably because even they couldn’t find a way to trash it.
Consumerist asks “How Much Would You Spend to Save Your Pet?”
We spent a lot to help Louis in his final year. Our cats are our children.
“AP keeps up its attack on Obama. Olbermann calls it ‘remarkable failure’.”
So, with this I will start my “Liberal media my ass” tag.

“The next president… should… order… the Census Bureau to cease… describing any American — even illegals — as uninsured.”
“John Goodman, president of the National Center for Policy Analysis, a right-leaning Dallas-based think tank. Mr. Goodman, who helped craft Sen. John McCain’s health care policy, said anyone with access to an emergency room effectively has insurance, albeit the government acts as the payer of last resort.
So, there you have it. Voila! Problem solved.”
Damn! I didn’t realize the national health care crisis could be solved this easily. I guess that’s why I’m not advising John McSame.

Hope
I’ve been watching the stream all evening. Obama is such a great man, such a great speaker. I’m crying tears of joy right now. This isn’t about Obama. This is about us.
“We are the one’s we’ve been waiting for.”
Now and forever, let us not fall for the lies and the fears.
If you have a deity, may they bless you and this country.
“Know hope.”

Did you know that Bush and his best friend, John McSame, ate cake as Katrina slammed into New Orleans?
And another one is likely to do so again? Great response then. Expect more of the same this time around. And in the future with John McSame.
“Romney: ‘McCain earned his homes and Obama didn’t.’”
“The response: ‘Cheating on your disabled wife to chase an heiress is not what most Americans would consider earning it.’”
“We need more Senators who know McCain to be honest about him. This is exactly the kind of insight the American people need.”
Senator Reid tells us what it’s like. He’s worked with McSame for 26 years.
“A majority of California voters oppose a ballot initiative to ban gay marriage, though they are evenly split on the practice itself…”
I want people to have their own opinion of marriage equality. Even if it means they don’t agree with my views. But nobody should be allowed to force their views onto me.
“American Driving Declines By Steepest Amount In 100 Years”
“From November to June, American driving dropped by 53.2 billion miles.”
Good!

“People around the world have always been more impressed by the power of our example than by the example of our power.”
It was a damned good speech.
As Andrew Sullivan has said many times before, just getting Bush out of the White House will instantly start the repairs to our soft power.

“The platform for the GOP will now include a total ban on even private funding for embryonic stem cell research.”
It’s their way or nothing. In this case, nothing. And don’t ask.
These “Christianists” are out of control. We must not allow them to continue to force their ways onto us.
These “Christianists” are out of control. We must not allow them to continue to force their ways onto us.
“[McCain] apparently thinks he’s permitted to lie repeatedly about his opponent… to divert attention from… his failing memory.”
He can’t remember anything. Except he was a POW.
We can’t have more of the McSame.
We can’t have more of the McSame.
“If Americans decide they want a president who will be more aggressive and less diplomatic than the current one…”
“…then they should at least brace for the consequences — for their economy and their security.”
More fear. More war. More of the same. John McSame.

“Analog Meets Its Match in Red Digital Cinema’s Ultrahigh-Res Camera”
Holy sh*t. Each frame is 4096×2304! That’s about twice resolution of my Cinema Display HD!
“‘More of the Same’ War Room in St. Paul”
From the comments: “Finally the Democrats are catching on. It all about driving home the message.”
“Military courts HS dropouts while banning college trained gays”
Headline says it all. DADT needs to go.
“You haven’t worked so hard over the last 18 months, or endured the last eight years, to suffer through more failed leadership.”
“Clinton told the delegates, ‘No way. No how. No McCain.’”
Thank you Hillary. It is more important than you. Thank you for realizing it!
Thank you Hillary. It is more important than you. Thank you for realizing it!
“Southern Baptists organize get-out-the-vote rally”
Because nothing says biblical values like taking care of the “least of thee”. Oh wait, John McSame won’t.
“Biden commutes to work eachday on Amtrak, and has for 30 years…”
I wish we had more rail in the US.
“…and spread through a Fraser Valley religious group that shuns immunization.”
First, when do we draw a line on interfering with religion? Most religions haven’t stopped themselves from forcing their beliefs onto others, often through war.
Second, this is on our back door, so to say. WTF?
Second, this is on our back door, so to say. WTF?

“And, this is also the clip where McCain said he would have picked Cheney as his V.P”
“That’s the kind of experience John McCain would bring to his presidency. It would be four more years of George Bush.”
John McSame.
John McSame.
“For some reason, Fox News is less eager to have him on the air than they were four years ago.”
Could that be because Faux News is really GOP TV?
“Biden was picked not as an event.”
“He was picked because of his ability to trash the Republican record in language most Americans will understand, to treat Republican foreign policy as the disaster it has been, and to give good advice on foreign affairs if Obama wins.”
“McCain has to campaign in Arizona. McCain is barely ahead in the state where he has the most houses”
“Arizona. This is McCain’s home state and he’s barely winning.”
“Who’s The Celebrity Again?”
“Last night was John McCain’s thirteenth appearance on the Tonight Show. More than Arnold. His peers in that elevated celebrity zone? Pamela Anderson, Dr Phil, Larry the Cable Guy, Simon Cowell, and Jennifer Love Hewitt.
Obama? He’s been on once.”
Obama? He’s been on once.”
“Study: Relationships of legally recognized gay couples last longer”
But I thought the agenda was out to destroy all relationships?
“The Dems made a huge mistake in 2004 by not bloodying up Zell Miller in Boston before he could attack them in New York.”
“This time, Lieberman must be annihilated. I’d use Jim Webb or Wesley Clark to twist the knife into him.”
“McCain again plays the POW card on an issue unrelated to national security”
“if the questions become too pointed, if the candidate makes too embarrassing a gaffe, McCain will simply play the POW card in the hopes that he embarrasses the American people, and the media, from further scrutinizing his qualifications to become president.”
“Wal-Mart isn’t getting a loan; it’s getting… a flat out gift of $500000 that it will never, ever have to return to the public…”
More corporate welfare! When will it stop?
“GOP platform to call for anti-gay amendment”
This is the biggest reason why I will not support the Republican party.
“But the Republican party now believes that this act of family bonding is such a threat to society…”
“…that the Constitution must be amended to forbid it — and to force [legally] married couples into de facto divorce.”
“If you’re an actual private sector worker, specially if you work in retail, it’s just another day of labor.”
“Former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich offers ‘An Ode To Labor Day’ and reminds us that workers don’t have a lot to celebrate. ‘Labor Day should remind us how many shitty jobs still exist.’”
“I’m Hillary Rodham Clinton and I do not approve of that message.”
HRC’s take on a McSame commercial that uses her past words against Obama.
Anything to win. We can’t have a third Bush term. No McSame.
Anything to win. We can’t have a third Bush term. No McSame.
“Marriage And Monogamy”
“(Homophobe) Amy Wax doesn’t seem to notice the foolishness of her argument. She worries that gays will destroy marriage by bringing a lack of sexual monogamy to it. How can you accuse a group of not practicing monogamy while arguing against giving them the legal right to enter into life long, monogamous unions? Once marriage is on the table, monogamy becomes the goal.”
“Both should be ashamed.”
“The only openly gay male athlete in Beijing pulled off one of the great upsets at the Olympics in a spectacular fashion. If he had had cancer, or if his parents had been killed in a car crash when he was 2, or if he had just proposed to his girlfriend, they would have mentioned it. But they never showed him hugging his boyfriend, never mentioned it.”
This is just disgusting. Supposedly we have a liberal media. Wouldn’t they share this story? Because of their supposed gay agenda? Oh, yeah, that’s right. The media is owned and run by big, right-wing organizations.

McSame: “I have a perfect voting record from organizations like the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion…”
“Although this sounds good, it is inaccurate and misleading. The VFW and American Legion do not compile congressional voting records, and other veterans’ organizations that do compile records aren’t favorable.”
More lies from the potential third Bush administration. John McSame.
More lies from the potential third Bush administration. John McSame.
“John McCain wanted to go fishing, so he built a private lake at one of his 12 houses”
It’s okay because the fundamentals of our economy are strong. John McSame.
“How does John McCain turn around the economy? The way he turned around his own finances! Marrying an heiress!”
He knows nothing about the economy. John McSame. The third Bush administration.
“US Advises Allies Not To Border Russia”
“[Condoleezza] Rice later pledged financial aid to the victims of devastating flooding in the West African nation of Togo, effective upon the country first meeting the stipulation of removing itself from under water.”

“The intimidation is going on now and it’s not the unions that do the intimidating.”
Wouldn’t it be great if a union did get voted in? I wonder how much the business model would change.
“He’s responding to middle class economic anxiety by referring to the Hanoi Hilton?”
Try to distract. Typical John McSame.
2008-08-22
“…Ask McCain when was the last time he had to worry about a family budget.”
But, he’s in touch with the needs of the middle class. The ones of us that make less than $5 million per year.
“On the other hand, McCain started the personal attacks, with the celebrity mockery.”
He uses the AmEx card for people who are middle-class: you know, the ones who spend over $250000 per year.

“More than 60 current or former telecom lobbyists work on McCain’s campaign”
But remember, he’s in touch with the common folk.

“The man is nothing more than a vindictive shell of his former self.”
Lieberman is out of his f*cking mind. Oh, and I just noticed that his name starts with “Lie”.
“I will act to destroy that government and bring it down.”
Andrew Sullivan needs to rename the Malkin Award. It ought to be the WTF Award.

“Yet Bush goes bumbling along, grinning and spewing moronic one–liners, as though nobody understands what a colossal failure he has been.”
“I fear to the depth of my being that John McCain is just like him.”
Yes, he will. John McSame.

“…He also accused the McCain campaign of having ties to Al Qaeda a few months ago.”
“This is the guy who authored the anti-Obama book.”
“Crime labs, DNA labs, and medical examiners shouldn’t serve under the same bureaucracy as district attorneys and police agencies.”
Very interesting. This does make a lot of sense, though.
“Josh Marshall: ‘McCain frequently… forgets things he’s said only hours or days before and is frequently just confused.’”
“Most Americans still don’t know it is precisely for this reason that the McCain campaign has now shut down the press’s previously unfettered access to the candidate on the Straight Talk Express.”

“[They use] ‘business model’ as a euphemism for union busting.”
“It’s hard to make a claim that paying decent wages will hurt the bottom line when a firm is raking in record profits. That’s why they are so afraid of a Dem victory, once their illegal behavior is challenged they know that their ‘business model’ won’t be able to stand up to real competition.”
“Why have we not invaded North Korea and Zimbabwe and Burma and… well, you get the picture.”
Are we now the police of the world? After the Republicans campaigned on us not policing the world? WTF?
Gay people: “Now we’re worse than abortion.”
Wow. There you have it folks. To the Republicans, like John McSame, we’re worse that an abortion.
“He’s a drama queen on these issues.”
McCain obviously doesn’t realize that there’s been a few acts of aggression before this.
“Obama isn’t the anti-christ: ‘ but from my reading of scripture, he doesn’t meet the criteria.’”
“Good thing that's settled.”

“Oregon Court: Racist, insulting speech is protected”
It’s good to know that our constitutional right to spew hate has been protected. We have the right to speak — no, spew — out hatred towards f***, s****, c*****, n******, J***, and any other group that doesn’t look and think exactly like “us”. I’m glad I have the constitutional right to tell the f*cking redneck backwood hicks that they are what’s wrong with this country.
Is any of this productive? Where does this get us? Am I for laws limiting people from speaking their mind? No. I think it’s great when people show us how asinine they are. Am I for hate-speech laws? Part of me says yes; the Libertarian side screams no. The problem I have is when what they say is used to justify laws against people. I will not tolerate anyone who thinks it’s fine to use Freedom of Speech as cover to incite violence.
I can’t stand people that say they support the Bill of Rights, then want to ban some words or expressions. How many times do we have to see Congress pass a bill banning flag-burning and then have the Courts strike it down before we understand the power of those amendments? How much longer is religion going to be used to justify laws against gay people? Why is it that my right to religious choice allows me to abstain from religion, but people have the right to try to force me to believe in a deity that likely doesn’t exist?
I want people to express themselves in a manner that doesn’t infringe on other’s rights to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. If we can’t manage to do this, then we will eventually destroy the right to free speech.
But it will take an amendment to the constitution. That’s not a move that anyone — myself included — can take lightly.

That’s from the comments to this link. Why don’t we have the same number of Democrats out there to sling mud?
“…the failing, flailing ‘War on Drugs’”
Oh, the war on drugs. I love the last two panels of this “Get Your War On” strip.
Our Attorney General: “But not every wrong, or even every violation of the law, is a crime.”
Ahhh, how the right is going to look back on this period as “the good old days”.
“[They replaced] career professionals with hacks who were obviously hired in violation of the civil service rules.”
The US Attorney story never received much press. But that’s because of our liberal media, I’m sure.
“Will this latest chapter in the Macintosh saga be Apple’s success story at last?”
