We are almost equal.

Today, the Washington Legislature passed Senate Bill 5688. This bill “Provides that for all purposes under state law, state registered domestic partners shall be treated the same as married spouses…”.

Wow. But, it's not equal. First, why call it something else? Second, at the federal level, DOMA prevents any recognition of our relationship.

But it’s a step forward. And I won’t complain about that.

“…The anti-gay-marriage crowd is now not just targeting gays, they're trying to undermine all civil rights laws… in this country.”

Isn’t there a saying about if all of us are not free, then none of are free? Damn it, Google keeps bringing up Lynyrd Skynyrd songs. Reminds me of when my first crush wanted to see them. Double damn it.

Mommy, wow! Infodriveway’s not a beta now!

So, I think that if you follow me from feed, you should check out the site. I marked it a beta for a bit while I was bringing things over the new Blogger templates. Let me know what you think.

“The Goal Of The Gay Rights Movement… should be to cease to exist.”

“Teddy Bear Massacre”

“If they were burning effigies of Bush to protest the massive debt we now face, I might take their good faith more seriously.”

This is why a civilized society respects everyone, even if they don’t agree with them.

“What’s really going on here is that the religious right wants a complete exemption from civil rights law for anyone who claims that their bigotry is inspired by God. Are you a conservative Catholic ambulance worker who doesn’t want to save the dying gay man in your gurney? Invoke God. How about the Baptist fireman who finds it distasteful to save the child of the lesbian couple burning in their apartment? Or the Mormon pharmacist who thinks the black customer having an asthma attack before his eyes can just carry his ass over to the next pharmacy ten miles away, since, you know, under the Mormon faith blacks turned against God and that’s why God burned their skin black — to mark them as evil.

“In each and every case above it would absolutely positively be impinging on the religious freedom of each of those individuals by forcing them to save the lives of the people they took their jobs to help. Then again, most major religions consider the Mormons a cult, so does that mean ambulance drivers could refuse to help Mormons under these proposals? Could firemen refuse to save the Mormon Temple? Could anyone refuse to work with anyone else who doesnt believe in their particular religion? After all, you’re all going to hell — why should I save your lives, do your taxes, or teach your kids in public school?”

Farewell to “Great Moments in Presidential Speeches”

“Gathering Storm” and Reality

I made an exception and visited the NOM page today. In case you don’t know NOM, these are the amazingly fucked up people who brought us such hits as “Gathering Storm” and “2M4M” (I wish I was making the last one up). I was curious to see what the “real stories” the actors were talking about in the oh–so–scary storm commercial.

“I’m a California doctor who must choose between my faith and my job.”
Shortly after the California Supreme Court redefined marriage in California law, a California Court of Appeals heard a case involving a doctor who had referred a woman in a same-sex couple to another doctor for artificial insemination because of his religiously based conscientious objection to participating in the procedure. The court held that the doctor could claim no religious exemption to the civil rights law under which she was sued because of the State’s compelling interest in ending sexual orientation discrimination, a policy one judge identified as emanating from the court’s marriage decision.

In the first “real story”, the doctor was upset that she couldn’t deny a lesbian a medical procedure she would gladly perform for a heterosexual. Waaah! Discriminating against gay people in marriage is wrong. So, if same–sex couples can marry, then other forms of discrimination against gay people must be wrong. Wow, that is deep.

“I’m part of a New Jersey church group punished by the government because we can’t support same-sex marriage.” A N.J. Methodist Camp Association was denied part of its tax exemption when it declined to allow a portion of its property to be used for a civil union ceremony. The same-sex couples who wanted to use the property are also pursuing a discrimination complaint against the Association, and the Division of Civil Rights in the Attorney General’s Office has found “probable cause” for continuing the action against the Association.

In the next “real story”, the religious group was upset that it couldn’t deny renting it’s property to a gay couple even though they would have done so for a heterosexual couple. Waaah! The government is after them for discrimination. They are going after their tax exemption status! Why the fuck do we let whole groups off the hook from paying their taxes? Can I invent a religion to avoid paying taxes? (Oh, that’s been done many times before.)

“I am a Massachusetts parent helplessly watching public schools teach my son that gay marriage is OK.” The U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit held that public schools “have an interest in promoting tolerance, including for the children (and parents) of gay marriages.” and “Given that Massachusetts has recognized gay marriage under its state constitution, it is entirely rational for its schools to educate their students regarding that recognition.”

In the third “real story”, some parents were upset that they couldn’t keep their children from hearing about gay marriages, though they would have no problem celebrating heterosexual marriages. Waaah! The courts did their part in calling out discrimination when loving and committed couples of the same gender couldn’t get married. There is no difference between a opposite–sex couple and a same–sex couple getting their marriage recognized by the government. None.

“But some who advocate for same-sex marriage have not been content with same-sex couples living as they wish. Those advocates want to change the way I live. I will have no choice.” This statement is based on several articles discussing religious liberty issues in the same-sex marriage context.

And in the final “real story”, wait, it’s not a “real story” at all! Imagine that, a lie. It’s supposed to be based on “several articles” that discuss people opposed to same–sex couples getting governmental recognition of the unions. The government recognizing your your neighbor’s marriage just like yours? But your marriage was performed in a church! Those people are homosexual! It says in the bible that… I’m trying to protect marriage for… We’re doing this for the children! You get the idea.

Their arguments have no validity. They have lost. Religious opposite–sex couples destroyed marriage, not loving same–sex couples. If they were so concerned about protecting marriage they would have fought divorce and kept infertile couples from marrying. What I think we’re now seeing is the beginning of the end for these people. Their bible directs them to love, but they are best at practicing hate.

You don’t want “homosexual marriage”? Then don’t get one. Your church doesn’t want to perform a “homosexual marriage”? Then don’t.

The government must not allow one group to be discriminated against. If you’re opposed to homosexuality, then you are either heterosexual or in denial.

“It’s a choice! You’re sick! You can pray away the gay!”

Seriously? I can’t even begin to express how old this is getting. I made no choice to be gay. Do these people even stop to think? To them, it’s as if I decided to be gay so I could run the risk of being beaten up and left for dead. That’s a great decision!

I want to end by making you think about this. Let’s entertain religious notions that homosexuals are out to destroy civilization. Isn’t is time we stopped letting religion rule us?

There’s a storm coming. Oh yes, honey, it’s coming!

Dobson: “Nation now ‘absolutely awash in evil.’”

Michael and I are doing our part. What the fuck ever.

And do these people ever listen to themselves? Do they ever wonder why people are jumping ship?

At work¹ the other day, some crazy guy² was finishing a purchase the other day, and felt compelled to share his vision with us. He said that in the next few years, Israel would empty. And… wait for it… it’s Obama’s fault. He won’t attack Israel directly, but he won’t allow Israeli fighter aircraft cross over Iraqi airspace to bomb the fucking daylights out of Iran. And because of that, Iran will nuke Israel.

So, my co–worker asked him if he thought Obama was the anti–christ. The guy says no. But he’s laying the groundwork for the coming of the anti–christ. He’ll probably come out of the Catholic church.

I did make him laugh by telling him that Ratzinger looked like Satan.

Supposedly in the end days the Christianists will be persecuted. Have they ever wondered why? A large portion of these “religious” people are bat–shit crazy.

¹ I want to remind all of you that anything I post here does not imply agreement or endorsement of my employer.

² Or my employer’s customers.

Today’s Rethuglicans: “These people are no longer operating in a reality shared by the rest of the world, and have not been for a long, long while.”

“How can we get politicians this courageous, this plain-spoken, at the national level?”

“Twenty-five, thirty years ago, the barometer of human rights in the United States were black people. That is no longer true.”

“The barometer for judging the character of people in regard to human rights is now those who consider themselves gay, homosexual, or lesbian.”

“The Link Between Gay Marriage and Mass Murders”

Oh my (insert preference of deity here). What the fuck is wrong with these people?

This is the right today. Wrong.

“This is how the social right is responding to our times, and to put it personally, my life and the lives and deaths of countless others. One day, they will understand the callousness and bitterness and willful ignorance they currently represent. As civilized society leaves them increasingly behind.”

Making some changes…

If you can read this, then great! If not (when I'm back), I'm sorry! I'm messing with DNS today. Wish me luck.

“Right wing attacks ‘wealthy homosexual activists’ for pushing the ‘tyranny’ of marriage equality.”

So, what can they say about Vermont? There were no “activist judges” this time. Oh that’s right. Tyrannical activists!

“I honestly have no idea what Dreher is asking for here.”

Neither does anyone else.

“He said he ‘never — never once’ endorsed Prop. 8, and he’s kind of right. In the video, he endorses it at least three times that I can count.”

“They treated it as a very historical case.”

“Some preachers would rather demonize gays than oppose heterosexuals who violate their vows by divorcing, often causing harm to their children.”

“That’s because so many in their congregations have been divorced and preaching against divorce might cause some to leave and take their contributions with them“

“Google’s Use of HTML 5 and WebKit for Mobile Web Apps”

“…because WebKit is the dominant mobile browser, Google’s mobile web apps are taking far more advantage of these cutting–edge HTML 5 features than their ‘full’ desktop web apps.”
