“…formerly rejected signatures are found on the lists of newly registered voters.”

Defiant until the end? I have a feeling we won’t win the court case heard today, and R-71 will be on the ballot.

The business–as–usual approach to these things has been to not care it the signer is actually a registered voter the day they sign a petition. But that doesn’t make it right.

Also, if the legislature adds a provision to the petition that requires a signature, then don’t ignore it. Well, ignore the petitions that come back unsigned by the gatherer.

Damn it. Why is it that every day gay people have to fight for the same exact rights straight people have?

Washington voters, you are better than they are. Approve R-71.

“We must recognize that it isn’t marriage these people oppose.”

“They oppose any recognition or respect for gay couples and gay families. Call it what it is: bigotry, pure and simple.”

The next time they say they just want to protect the word — don’t believe it!

Ahhh. That's how it’s done.

“…voters have a right to ask why they went to such trouble to elect Democratic majorities and a Democratic president.”

Why? What’s the point of electing a bunch of Democraps if they are not going to lead? At least I knew I was going to get under the Rethuglicans.

It’s time for Reid, Pelosi, Rahm, and a slew of top Democrap “leaders” to resign. The Rethuglican leadership knows how to keep their members in line.

But it seems too late to change anything now. And it’s hard to change if you can’t admit you have a problem.

“Own it, Gary”

“When ‘pro–marriage’ equals attacking the legal and financial stability of over 5,800 Washington families only because many of them are gay, then by your own definition you are anti–gay.”

What the fuck is up with these Dish Network ads?

When we payed all the bills, we didn’t have money left over. And there’s no difference in picture quality, so why more for DirecTV?

Then later in the ad, they mention how much better their signal quality is.

So here’s what I see is wrong in the scenario this commercial lays out: So they can’t makes ends meet, but decide to sign a two-freaking-year contract that keeps the bill at $39.99 a month for the first year. And this doesn’t include the sports channels and premium networks that everyone just has to have.

That’s the gist of the ad. That’s responsible. Can’t pay the bills, but we decided to go with a satellite television package. Fuck you Dish. Fuck your ads.

“Stop being so uppity” they say. Fuck them.

I am not second class. If you think I am, fuck you. If you think I need to wait, fuck you.

“‘Death To Obama’ Sign-Holder At Town Hall Detained By Secret Service”

When is this madness going to stop? Before a fucking revolution?

And why now?

Where were these people wishing death upon Bush when he stole the election?

Where were these people wishing death upon Cheney when he shit on the Constitution?

Support Senate Bill 5688

Referendum 71’s sponsors say that Senate Bill 5688 makes same-sex marriages legal and forces schools to teach about homosexuality. Both of their talking points are lies. Unfortunately for my partner and I, the law does not make same-sex marriage legal. It does expand the state’s “separate but equal” institution of Domestic Partnerships. Additionally, nowhere in the law does it mention teaching children anything about gay people.

The Secretary of State’s summary states, “…that a domestic partnership is not a marriage.” Providing marriage or any type of benefits to same-sex couples does not threaten anyone else’s marriage, and denying them harms families and their children. If Referendum 71 appears on November's ballot, please remember that your vote to approve the new law will help protect all Washington families and their children.

“How do [conservatives] intend to actually address the questions of our time and place? And if conservatism cannot do that, what use is it?”

“[The right…] fight hard, and they fight dirty.”

“While our side doesn’t fight at all. We negotiate backroom deals with Big Pharma in the hopes that our opponents will ‘like’ us, and join us in a chorus of cumbaya. If we just give away enough of the house, the logic goes, the bad guys will stop being mean to us. How many times do we have to hear this rationalization for Democratic cowardice and incompetence before we demand a change in the leadership of our party, the non–profit advocacy organizations, and the Democratic consulting class?

“They’re all screwing it up again, like they always do.”

“Look: if these people were yelling: ‘End the employer tax break!’ or ‘More Cost–Controls!’ or ‘Malpractice Reform!’ I’d be more sympathetic.”

“But this is blind panic and rage.”

Has anyone else noticed that these people have gone off the reservation? Let me know what you think. offthereservation@infodriveway.org

“…you can put up with a lot if you love what you do.”

“And that when you don’t like what you do, you end us suffering the death of a thousand cuts — every little thing becomes magnified until it becomes intolerable.”

“The actual lives of gay people and their families, meanwhile, are not fantasy.”

This is another good post by Andrew Sullivan about marriage. Good timing I suppose. I actually was discussing this with part of my family two weeks ago.

I told my brother that everyone understands what marriage is. People hate change. In society’s attempt to avoid change (by creating Civil Unions, Domestic Partnerships, Reciprocal Beneficiaries, etc) we have changed things too much. Society has weakened marriage. (And please don’t even take no–fault divorce into account here.)

Marriage as an institution has changed so much that the long–term goal should be to move everyone — straight or gay to a civil union. Long term the government must get out of the marriage business. But, such a massive change to how people think of marriage won’t happen for a long time, if ever.

Since people hate change so much, the easiest thing to do would be to allow any adult couple to enter into a marriage. It’s ironic, isn’t it?

But the worst thing about talking about all of this is: talking. The time for talk was a long time ago. We needed marriage equality yesterday. I don’t mind society talking about what to do about marriage, but while we wait for society to catch up to that idea, we need marriage — and it’s protections for our families and children — now. Any further delays are inexcusable.

“Now, there’s no excuse for all those ex–gay ‘ministries’. It’s quackery.”

“The American Psychological Association adopted a resolution Wednesday stating that mental health professionals should avoid telling clients that they can change their sexual orientation through therapy or other treatments.”

I can’t change. Even if I could, I wouldn’t. I’m love myself.

What. The. Hell?

Washington state law makes the signatures of initiatives public record. Anyone can make a request for these records. Whosigned.org is simply going to make these records easily searchable.

Do people seriously think that when I find out that they signed R-71 that I’m going to go to their house and rough them up? Seriously, I really want a yes or no answer.

And again, seriously, please let me know where on whosigned.org or in the press Brian Murphy (the man behind the site) suggests people need to be harassed. Just one article or link is all I need. If someone else is saying that signers of R-71 should be harassed, remember, Brian cannot control what anyone else says.

Maybe I should apply these people’s thought process and freak out that my State Registered Domestic Partnership is public record. What is someone going to do with this information?

If someone has a problem with the state law mandating certain records being made public, then they should work with their lawmakers (or start their own initiative) to end this practice.

I think that it’s just this one issue some people have a problem with.

“It makes little sense that America considers an 18–year–old mature enough to marry, to sign a contract, to vote and to fight and die for his country…

but not mature enough to decide whether or not to have a beer.”

End or relax the minimum drinking age laws. I’ve said this before… I don’t think I’ve done so online. Now I have.

“They really just hate gays.”

I thought these state–constitutional amendments were about keeping an “activist” court from overriding the people’s elected officials. The Wisconsin Legislature voted to approve Domestic Partnerships. The Governor of Wisconsin signed the bill granting Domestic Partnerships. Do the voters in Wisconsin no longer elect their representative or governor? They do!

Now, the christianists are out for blood! Imagine that. How many times do gay people have to tell straight people that it was never about “protecting marriage”?
